Ta Moko Tatoo Artist
Paitangi is an artist who works with wood, bone, fibre and paint but whose preferred medium is ink on skin. One of the few female Tā Moko Artists of New Zealand, she brings her own dimension to this traditional Māori art form. Paitangi works from her studio in Paihia, New Zealand and also travels internationally by request to share her skills with those on a journey of spiritual & cultural awakening and self expression.
ART BY PAITANGI
As well as her specialty in Tā Moko, Paitangi is an accomplished artist in a variety of other mediums. Carving was her first love and she utilises bone and wood for this aspect of her art. Weaving is another passion. Kākahu (feather cloaks) and Kete (bags) are all completed by hand and take many months. Paitangi also uses mixed mediums of ink and paint on canvas to achieve stunning works of art imbued with meaning and are a representation of her links to the Māori spiritual world.
